Self catered

Les Roches Noires normally operates as a self catered chalet. As our location is so central it is very easy to buy food and other provisions; it is not necessary to have a car as everything is readily accessible by foot. It takes less than five minutes to walk to the Casino supermarket and it is only a 10 minute walk to Morzine’s Carrefour. We have a very good butcher at the end of our road and a little further along that road is possibly the best patisserie in town. On a Wednesday morning there is a market in the Carrefour car park offering a great selection of vegetables, meat, fish and cheese.

Catered

If you want the chalet catered there are some companies that you can book for either a few nights or the whole week. There are also some very good companies that offer a service of ready made meals that they then deliver to the chalet for you to put in the oven. The following two are worth considering:

Chez Michelle

In Town Restaurants

There are many good restaurants in Morzine, virtually all of which are in easy walking distance of the chalet. Restaurant choice is obviously subjective but our current favourites include the following:

Le Tyrolien

This is a very friendly, good value bar and restaurant which is almost next door. It serves Savoyard food, very good steaks and what are probably the best pizzas in town.

Le Clin D’Oeil

You can be sure of a warm welcome from Kristel and Jean Noel who have run this restaurant for 10 years. The style of cooking is from the south west of France. If you like duck this is the place to come! It also serves traditional dishes. Website

The Farmhouse

This is one of the oldest properties in Morzine. The format is a little different to most restaurants in that all guests are served a set menu around one very large communal table. Space is limited so booking is essential. The food is excellent but if you are limited in what you can eat it is worth checking on the menu when you make your reservation. It is run a little like a country house and very social – we love it! Website

L’Atelier

Located near the town “square” and part of Le Samoyede Hotel, L’Atelier offers delicious fine dining. It has a fabulous “degustation menu”. Website

Bec Jaune Brewery

This is a micro brewery which serves its own beer and a variety of simple and seasonal, hearty meat and vegetarian food. It is a popular spot and often very busy.  Website

La Chaudanne

A charming restaurant with a great atmosphere in a traditional style building constructed with old wood and stone. It has has a very nice cellar, which is run as a wine bar. Website

Up the Mountain Restaurants

Le Vaffieu

A charming restaurant serving traditional Savoyarde fare. This is very popular so you need to book. They have a small attic room which one can book for a private party. It is a beautiful place to stop for a drink before skiing back down to Morzine after a wonderful day on the slopes.
